Animal Adaptations

We have been learning about biomes and animal adaptations.  We learned about how butterflies have camouflage to blend in with their surroundings.  Then we learned about physical adaptations like bird beaks.  We used different tools to find out which type of beak works best for each type of bird food.  We experimented with seeds, fish, meat (marshmallows), insects (rice), and worms.  The tools we used were toothpicks, pliers, tweezers, tongs, slotted spoon, and regular spoon.  Which do you think worked best for each of the food sources?

JA BizTown

Whew!  It’s been a busy couple of weeks preparing for our field trip to JA BizTown.  We reviewed the “Help Wanted” ads, and applied for jobs.  Once to had a job we had to meet with our business to create advertisements, as well as add up all the business expenses, and apply for a business loan.  The goal was to pay off the business loan by the end of the day.  Out of 13 businesses, 7 accomplished that goal.  It was a exciting, fun, and tiring day of hard work, and we can’t wait to go back next year!
