The One and Only Ivan

Our teacher is reading us The One and Only Ivan.  It’s about a silverback gorilla that lives in a shopping mall.  Ivan was taken from his home in the jungle and transported to the United States in a crate.  For the past two days we constructed our own crate for Not Ivan (our little stuffed animal monkey).

Here’s Not Ivan:

He is 5 inches tall, 2 inches wide, and 2 inches deep.  So our crates had to be a bit larger than those dimensions.

Most of our crates were rectangular prisms.

Who knows the volume of a rectangular prism that is 5 inches tall, 2 inches wide, and 2 inches deep?

We worked very hard to make a nice crate for Not Ivan.

We made sure Not Ivan would be very comfortable in his crate.

We made removable roofs.

We decorated his crate and put pictures on the walls for him.

Have you read The One and Only Ivan yet?
