We learned all about matter this week. First we observed the three types of matter in balloons. Then we popped the balloons to see what would happen. The solid kept its shape, the liquid spilled everywhere, and the gas disappeared (with a LOUD pop!). Today we talked about molecules. We pretended the balloons were molecules to see what would happen when we shake them up. The tightly packed molecules hardly moved, but the molecules that had more space bounced around like crazy. We found out that the molecules in a solid are tightly packed, but the molecules in a liquid and gas have more space to move around (which is why they don’t keep their own shape).
